For schooling there is a well regarded primary school, "Little Ducks" pre-school in the village, along with King Alfred's School in Wantage.

The parish was part of the Wantage Rural District in Berkshire until the 1974 boundary changes transferred the Vale of White Horse to Oxfordshire.

Over the years Childrey has had many shops and retailers; the history of the current Childrey Stores can be traced back to 1850 when it was set up by Thomas Herman as a general store and later also included a butchers.



After World War II Childrey coffee was famous throughout the country as Kenyan coffee was imported and roasted on the site of what is now Dolphin House. The village pond has existed for centuries and was once used for watering livestock.

Wantage offers ameneties including, a Waitrose, Costa Coffee restaurants and a leisure centre.

More comprehensive facilities can be found in Oxford or Swindon, which provide large retail stores and leisure facilities.

The A420 provides access to the M4 motorway, the A34 provides access to Newbury to the south, and Bicester to the north, which leads on to the M40 for London and Birmingham.

Commuting by train is from Oxford or Didcot Parkway.
